Train driver’s licence

1. Completion of a course of general professional competence consisting of a minimum of 120 hours in an accredited centre.
2. Once the course successfully completed, an application may be made to the Rail Authority to take an examination to verify the general professional competence to obtain a train driver's licence.
3. Upon successful completion of the examination, an application may be made to the Rail Authority to be issued with a train driver's licence. The train driver's licence shall be issued for a period of 10 years.
4. The detailed procedure is laid down in the 'Train driver's licence' guidance document.

• The train driver's licence may be extended only if the applicant meets the conditions of Sections 46 and 46d of the Railways Act. The application must be accompanied by a copy of the last licence and a copy of the medical fitness certificate.
• We recommend that applicants submit applications at least two months in advance!

Before the examination, the applicant shall deliver a completed Application for Verification of General Professional Competence to the Rail Authority, Bělehradská 222/128, 120 00 Praha 2, unless the applicant has already done so in the past.

Once completed, the form can be sent to the Rail Authority via data box, by mail or handed in in person at the registry office.
